And Let Halloween Be Over ... I Mean... Begin.

Are you excited for Halloween?

I'm not. As usual, I got excited for a holiday too early and by the time the actual day has rolled around, I'm over it.

Yeah, I'm over it.

But me being me, I'll suck it up and do what has to be done. Like tonight, there is a dance that Kim and I are going to. We've being planning our costumes for it for, I don't know, months? I don't feel like going, and I have a feeling Kim doesn't either. We've been thinking about it for too long, now that the day has rolled around, we'd both just rather stay in our comfy clothes, watch Halloween TV and gorge on junk food (Kay, so now I'm talking for Kim, and deciding the way she should feel. Actually, I don't think this is unusual. Nevermind.) We'll go though, you know why? Because we're troopers. We said we'd go, so we'll go. The End.

So what are you doing this Halloween Weekend? Anything fun planned?

Ummm Lissy....as I'm putting up our playlist, I'm reading your post, and....I want to go, I enjoy dressing up and dancing to a great band (Lissy: Ummm... no Kim, you don't feel like going, do you know why? Because I said so. You are also going to have an extra awesome time tonight... because I said so.) Yes, I love my comfy clothes but like you I am in them more often then I should be.....we'll have a great night and you know it!!
Hurry up and get over here I'm ready to drink and put our make up on....but nope...mom duties first, make dinner for the kids and make sure everyone is happy before I go....maybe just one drink while I do that!

Who/What are you going to be??

Halloween is upon us once again, so.....Who/What are you going to be??

Every year I am normally getting 4-5 costumes together, 3 kids, me and sometimes Clay....so I generally start preparing in September.....the kids and I decided pretty early what we wanted to be, so I've had a lot of time to get everything organized, but when I came home from my trip to Victoria, my son says that he has changed his mind about what he wants to be....thanks to his Dad, one of the days I was gone they watch a Friday the 13th marathon on TV, so ya....you guessed it he now wants to be Jason....thanks goodness it was an easy costume change! Since Clay is away at work this Halloween I have enlisted Lissy to be my Halloween partner....pictures to follow after our night out!

So.....when you dress up, do you get creative, our do you put on the same thing ever year? Do you like to dress up with others or alone?

Here is a great family costume if you still need an idea:

Happy costume hunting!!!

Un Chapeau

That's right, just one. Because although I was in the cutest shop, in an adorable historic house in Okotoks, Alberta, and I was surrounded in 3 hats that I loved (and 3 more that I liked)... I could only get one.

Let me tell you, it was torture. The problem, you see, is they were all cloches. I love cloches and the fact that they have come back into fashion in the last few years makes my head super happy. But like I said, I could only have one, and so I just bought one. Un chapeau. I've been dreaming of that shop though, and the rest of the hats. I'm a little sad that I didn't splurge and buy one... two more.

Have you ever worn a cloche? Properly worn, they are almost pulled totally over your eyes, so that you have to tilt your head up to see anyone, and then you're looking down you're nose at them, all snooty-like, loftily even. Sigh. They are the best. There is nothing I love more than going around looking down my nose at people.

Another bonus: I live in a small town. If you live, or have lived in a small town, then you know that going to the grocery store, the post office, or say, the bank, can be quite a social event. Well, sometimes I don't like that, ok, most of the time I'm not into that. In fact, I like nothing more than to just ignore everyone some days, but that isn't always an option. With this hat, however, it is more than an option, I don't even need to ignore people, because I honestly can't see them! hahahaha! I love it!

I don't see you!!!!

The Best Part about Halloween is...

I don't really need to say it, do I?

So, Kim and I went shopping on Friday. The goal, halloween costume odds 'n' sods for us and groceries for me. Now, the store where I buy my groceries from always gives you something free if you spend over $250 (one time, we got a DVD player, that was probably the best thing we've ever received). These things tend to be seasonal, in the summer, there are boxes of fruit, around thanksgiving and Christmas... turkey.

Can you guess what you get at Halloween?

Anyway, Kim and I are shopping and I picked up a nice big bar of chocolate with toffee bits in it from the candy aisle... of course. Kim got herself a bag of peanut butter cups and we moved on.

At the bulk section, I scooped up myself a 1/4 lb of sour candies and, feeling satisfied with my day, headed for the check out.

At that point, I've not even thought about the free thing I'll be getting, and let me tell you, that is usually the first thing I think of upon entering that store (well, obviously, it's something for free). As Kim and I are loading all the crap up onto the counter at the till, we noticed the person in front of us being brought a large box of Halloween candy.

"I bet that's the free thing!" Kim practically squealed at me. I'd like to think her excitement was for me, but really, I think she was planning about coming over to my house later on...

And it was!!!!

The free thing was a giant 1.5kg box of candy (that's around 3lbs for you Americans). Not only that... it's all Reeses Peanut Butter Cups and Reeses Pieces!!!

SQUEEEEEELLLLLLL!!!!!!

Now, I'm not sure I've mentioned this before... but I love Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. They are my favorite breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack(s). They make my day bright and light and shiny.

So now I have a big bar of toffee chocolate, a large bag of sour candies and a giant box of halloween candy! Seriously, that made my trip across on the ferry worth it 3 times over.

Next stop, Dollarama for more Halloween junk...

Where I buy 2 Reeses Peanut Butter Bars... the big ones.

*cough*.

But you see, I had to. I always buy them when I go there because they don't sell them anywhere else! And they are the best, even better than the RPC's. It didn't matter that I had 50lbs of sweets in the car, those choclate bars needed to be bought and stashed away for emergencies... like breakfast.

So you see now, I had to.

Do you know what I've been eating for the past 4 days?

Do you know how happy I am about this?

Now excuse me while I go and happily glutton myself to 900lbs.

*** PS. Remind me around Christmas to put up my Peanut Butter Cup recipe... if you're interested that is.

*** PPS. Sorry about the amount of words there... do you have a headache now? Maybe you need some chocolate... but not mine, I don't have enough to share.

An 18 Hr Drive... More or Less

I've been home for a few days now, but haven't been all that inspired to talk to you all. This might be because I feel like I should talk about my trip, yet I've been unsuccessful in summing it up in words. I wasn't sure why this was until, this morning, when one of my favorite bloggers made the comparison of sharing vacation stories to telling someone about a dream you had... "fun for you, boring for everyone else."

Upon reading this, I thought "F*cking right!" and promptly threw out the idea of talking about my trip at all. What I will do, however, is sum it up in pictures. Hopefully getting this outta the way will be like snaking a hairball outta a drain and I'll be back harassing you in full force.

So here it is...

Monster in the car. It's still happy, but it's only 2hrs into the trip.

Tartina

I have this wonderful friend.....her name is Jessica Brooks, not only is she smart and beautiful, she is amazingly talented, she has her own baking company and a singing career. She lives in Toronto, so I don't get to see her much anymore, but it's always like no time lost when I do see her, which I love, we always have a good time together, whether we are having a few drinks or a cup of coffee. Whenever she is home for the christmas holidays she takes my kids all day and bakes with them.....she is so sweet and I love my Jess!
